Distal radial fracture: Treatment of contractures with dynamic splints is ineffective
J Physiother. 2012;58(3):173-8040 patients with contracture following distal radius fracture were randomized to receive a dynamic splint or routine care. Over 12 weeks, firm conclusions about the difference between the two groups for passive wrist extension and Patient Rated Hand Wrist Evaluation (PRHWE) scores could not be made due to the imprecision of the estimates. The two groups also did not differ with respect to active wrist extension, flexion, radial deviation, ulnar deviation, performance, and satisfaction scores. Results have, therefore, suggested that there is likely to be no therapeutic effect of the dynamic splint on contracture following distal radius fracture.
