120 third year medical students were randomized to study the anatomy of a spinal fracture via a CT image, 3D image, or a 3D printing (3Dp) model. The purpose of the study was to assess whether the teaching method had an effect on the acquired knowledge of spinal anatomy and whether there was an effect of sex. The findings indicated that both 3D groups performed significantly better on the spinal fracture assessment in comparison to the CT group and gender effects were only seen in the 3D image group, favouring male participants.
