Fifty-seven patients (60 knees) undergoing cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive conventional tourniquet pressure of 350mmHg or of 100mmHg above systolic blood pressure (SBP). Results indicated that there was no difference between the two groups with respect to the mean perioperative blood loss. Over 3 months, the two groups also did not differ in red blood cell counts, hemoglobin levels, and hematocrit. At the last follow up of 3 months, all three parameters had returned to baseline levels in both groups.
