Thirty patients with Tscherne C1 fractures were randomized to receive intramedullary nailing of the tibia with or without traction. At the end of the procedure, there was an increase in compartment pressure in both groups. However, the increase in pressure was significantly higher in the traction group than in the non-traction group for all 4 compartments. None of the pressures reached the critical level requiring intervention.
