This meta-analysis included 7 studies comparing a proprioceptive exercise regime to a control (non-proprioceptive program or no treatment) in patients with knee osteoarthritis. From the 7 studies, there was a total of 560 patients. Results from the analysis indicated that proprioceptive exercise led to significantly greater outcomes for all functional assessments than a non-treatment control. However, compared to a non-proprioceptive program, the proprioceptive exercise program was only superior in terms of joint position sense-related measurements.
