100 female osteoarthritis patients (200 knees) undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive a gender specific prosthesis or a standard prosthesis. Over 24 months, the gender specific group demonstrated a significantly greater improvement in range of motion than the standard group. There was no difference between the two groups with respect to the Knee Society scores and the Hospital for Special Surgery scores.
