Cryopneumatic device improves narcotics use and patient satisfaction following TKA
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2012 Nov;94-B(11 Suppl):153-6. doi: 10.1302/0301-620X.94B11.30832.

280 patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty were included in this study to evaluate the effect of cryotherapy on pain, inflammation, functional and clinical outcomes. Patients were randomized to postoperative treatment with a cryopneumatic device or ice with a static compression bandage. The results of the study demonstrated that the cryopneumatic device significantly decreased the need for narcotics by the 2 week follow-up, significantly increased patient satisfaction, and displayed a trend towards significantly increasing the distance walked in the 6 minute walk test.
