116 patients presenting with carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized to receive either surgical or multi-modality, non-surgical treatment to compare both functional and pain outcomes. The results from this study indicated that there was a small but significant improvement in carpal tunnel syndrome assessment questionnaire (CTSAQ) scores in the surgical group when compared to the non-surgical group at 12 months. This difference was of moderate clinical relevance.
