78 patients suffering from acute back pain, caused by osteoporotic vertebral fractures, were randomized to undergo vertebroplasty or a sham procedure. The goal of this study was to assess if vertebroplasy was an efficacious treatment for pain caused by vertebral fractures. The results from this study at 1, 3 and 6 month follow-ups indicated that vertebroplasty had no additional benefits when compared to the sham procedure.
