In this systematic review 129 trials (consisting of 10488 participants) examining the effectiveness of tranexamic acid during surgery to a placebo or no acid were evaluated. Results displayed that tranexamic acid reduced the chances of needing a blood transfusion in surgical patients. Yet, there was not enough evidence to determine the effects of tranexamic acid on thromboembolic events and mortality in patients undergoing surgery.
