Five randomized controlled trials (368 patients) were identified to analyze the effectiveness of steroid injection in the treatment of lumbar radicular pain. The results of this meta-analysis and systematic review indicated improvement in pain but not disability in the steroid treatment compared to the control; however, these differences were not significant. This meta-analysis demonstrated that there were no significant benefits with the addition of steroids for the treatment of lumbar radicular pain.
