125mg methylprednisolone does not reduce time to meet discharge criteria after THA

48 patients were randomized to determine the effects of glucocorticoid prophylaxis on the length-to-discharge following total hip arthroplasty. Patients received either a single dose of 125mg methylprednisolone or isotonic saline (placebo) in addition to a multimodal oral analgesic protocol. The results indicated that despite improved immediate post-operative pain and inflammatory response, there was no difference in the time to reach discharge requirements between groups.
