Corticosteroid injection for short-term pain relief in Greater Trochanter Pain Syndrome
.2009....229 patients who suffered from greater trochanter pain syndrome were randomized to one of three groups. The first group receiving corticosteroid injection at the site of pain, a second group receiving shock wave therapy, and finally a third group prescribed exercise therapy. The study aimed to compare and evaluated all three treatment options in a long term randomized trial. The results of this study indicated that corticosteroid injection provided the best recovery results at one month follow-up. However, this result was consistent in the longer term follow ups with shock wave and exercise therapy providing better results at 4 and 15 month follow-ups.
