No difference between operative/non-operative management of traumatic patellar dislocation

24 patients with first-time traumatic patella dislocations were randomised to receive either surgical or conservative treatment in order to compare the efficacy of each treatment method. Following assessments over a 24 month period, the results displayed that slightly better Kujala scores and re-dislocation rates were obtained from operative treatment, but the differences between the treatment methods were not significant. The lack of significance was likely due to the study being under powered.
