Corticosteroid injection not effective in treatment of lateral epicondylalgia

165 patients were randomized to determine the efficacy of a single corticosteroid injection in treating lateral epicondylalgia, both in the presence and absence of physiotherapy. Patients were allocated to one of four groups: corticosteroid with physio, corticosteroid without physio, placebo with physio, or placebo without physio. The results at 52 weeks indicated that patients treated with corticosteroid injection experienced worse recovery and recurrence rates compared to placebo injection.
