Exercise therapy improves pain and function in patellofemoral pain syndrome
BMJ. 2009 Oct 20;339:b4074. doi: 10.1136/bmj.b4074.

131 suffering from a new episode of patellofemoral syndrome were randomized to receive either supervised exercise therapy or usual care (wait- and-see approach). This study was designed to compare these two common treatments for patellofemoral syndrome and to determine which was superior. The results from this study indicated that supervised exercise therapy produces improved functional and pain scores at 3 and 12 month follow-up when compared to usual care. Self-reported recovery did not vary between groups.
