Whole body vibration improves leg muscle strength in older adults, but not BMD in women

18 articles (13 randomized controlled trials), involving 896 patients, were examined to determine the impact of whole body vibration therapy versus receiving no therapy or exercise on bone mineral density and leg muscle strength in patients over the age of 50. Whole body vibration did not significantly affect bone mineral density in older women, but it was effective in increasing leg muscle strength in patients of both sexes.
