AAOS: Operative vs. non-operative treatment for dislocations of acromio-clavicular joint
83 patients with acute dislocations acromio-clavicular (AC) joint were randomized to either operative repair (with hook plate fixation) or nonoperative treatment to compare their clinical outcomes. The assessment at 24 months indicated that hook plate fixation was not superior to nonoperative treatment. Although nonoperative treatment led to better clinical scores early on in the study, this difference was non-significant by one year.
