89 osteoporotic women (60 or older) were randomized to determine the effectiveness of an exercise program on functional outcome and health-related quality of life in this population. Patients were allocated to a 3-month exercise protocol group or control group, who were told to retain their current lifestyle. Follow-up assessments were conducted at the end of the program period (3 months) and at 12 months. The results indicated that functional performance and several facets of disease-specific health-related quality of life were significantly better in those of the exercise group.
