88 patients were randomized to determine the effect of repair augmented with platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) membrane in the treatment of rotator cuff tear. Patients were allocated to either surgery with PRFM sutured into the repair site, or non-augmented repair. Follow-up was conducted for a minimum of 16 months postoperatively for clinical and radiographic outcomes. Results at final follow-up indicated that there was no significant difference between groups in Constant score, tendon thickness, or size of the tendon footprint, although the tendon signal intensity was graded higher in the PRFM-augmented group. Routine use of PRFM in rotator cuff repair was not supported by the findings of this research.
