30 patients with lateral epicondylitis and 30 patients with plantar fasciitis were randomized to determine the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma injection in the treatment of both conditions. A 1:1 ratio of patients from each cohort were allocated to receive either injection of PRP or corticosteroid, and were followed-up for 6 weeks thereafter in outcomes of pain and function. Results at 6 weeks in patients with plantar fasciitis indicated that while both treatments significantly improved pain and function, patients treated with PRP had a greater degree of improvement. In patients with lateral epicondylitis, similar pain and functional outcome was observed between PRP and corticosteroid injections.
