Use of PLG in open subacromial decompression lowers pain and improves function

40 patients underwent open subacromial decompression (OSD) surgery to treat impingement syndrome. During wound closure patients were randomized to either receive an injection of platelet-leukocyte gel (PLG) or not, so as to determine the impact of the PLG on recovery. Following 6 weeks of evaluation the results displayed that the healing process was significantly faster in patients who received an injection of PLG, which allowed for an earlier return to daily activities. In addition, these patients consumed less pain medication than patients in the control group.
