14 studies (n=734) evaluating the effects of a physical exercise program on patients who underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were selected for this review (3 of which were included in the meta-analysis and 11 of which were only qualitatively reviewed). Results from the meta-analysis indicated that there was an increase in quality of life in the physical exercise group compared to the control group at the time of hospital discharge. In addition, there was a significant decrease in levels of fatigue in the intervention group. Lastly, there was no difference between groups in anxiety or depression levels at the time of hospital discharge.
