Arthroscopy. 2013 May;29(5):794-801. doi: 10.1016/j.arthro.2013.01.011. Epub 2013 Feb 1563 patients undergoing arthroscopic acromioplasty were randomized to receive suprascapular nerve blocks (SNB) via one of three different techniques. Patients were allocated to receive an ultrasonography-guided (UG), electrophysiology-guided (EG), or blind (using anatomical landmarks) SNB. Results after 3 days of assessment indicated that both UG and EG SNB relieved pain more effectively than blind SNB. Pain relief within 4 hours postoperatively, was best in the UG-treated group.
