Nine randomized controlled trials examining the effects of either platelet-rich plasma (PRP), autologous blood injections, sclerosing agents, protease inhibitors, deproteinized hemodialystate, corticosteroids or prolotherapy in the treatment of non-insertional Achilles tendinosis were selected for this review. The purpose of this review was to summarize the effectiveness of various injectable treatments in the management of non-insertional Achilles tendinosis. Results indicated that mild to moderate improvements in clinical outcomes were found with the use of various injectable treatments, however this improvement was not significantly different when compared to the control/placebo group.
