HAND & WRIST
Use of Norian SRS cement to accelerate rehabilitation in distal radial fractures
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2003 Nov;85-A(11):2127-37

323 patients with a distal radial fracture were randomized to receive a closed reduction followed by injection of Norian Skeletal Repair System (SRS) cement or a closed reduction with a cast or external fixator (control). Patients were assessed clinically and radiographically through 12 months. At 6-8 weeks, clinical findings were significantly better in the Norian group than the control group in terms of grip strength, wrist range of motion, digital motion, use of the hand, social and emotional function, and swelling. These differences were not seen by 1 year. No differences were seen in the total number of complications, including loss of reduction. But the infection rate was also significantly higher in the control group.
