76 community-dwelling elderly women (older than 60 years) were randomized to undergo 25 weeks of Adapted Physical Activity (APA) programme or no exercise regimen, in order to study the feasibility and effectiveness of the APA programme on balance, functional mobility, quality of life, and incidence of falls. The post-intervention findings indicated improved static balance on one leg stance test, functional mobility by Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, quality of life subdomains (physical functioning, vitality, general health), as well as reduced risk of falls. Additionally, women demonstrated high adherence to the programme.
