Effectiveness of Myofascial Trigger Point Manual Therapy
J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2011 Feb;41(2):43-50. Epub 2011 Jan 31.60 patients diagnosed with plantar heel pain were randomized to receive either treatment incorporating soft tissue trigger release therapy (TrP) in combination with a self-stretching program or receive treatment with a self-stretching program alone. The results from this study indicate that the addition of soft tissue trigger point therapy to a self-stretching program provided superior functional and self-reported pain outcomes when compared to treatment of a self-stretching program alone.
