Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Stimulation for Acute Tibial Shaft Fractures

259 patients with acute tibial shaft fractures were randomized to receive either externally active pulsed electromagnetic stimulation or placebo, in which the device was inactive. The results of 12 month follow-up indicated that there was no significant difference between the two groups, in regards to the rate of secondary surgery due to delayed union or non-union. It is important to note that this trial was stopped early after interim analysis.
