61 patients with shoulder impingement were randomized to complete 3 months of either high-dosage (HD) or low-dosage (LD) medical exercise therapy (including both aerobic and shoulder-specific exercise) in order to determine what impact they had on shoulder pain and function. Results collected over 15 months indicated that patients who took part in the HD medical exercise therapy programme experienced significantly greater improvement in shoulder pain and function compared to those who completed the LD medical exercise therapy programme.
