Ninety-five patients scheduled to undergo a total hip replacement were randomized to receive either a fibrin spray, a bipolar sealer or standard electrocautery (control group) to evaluate the effects of these interventions on blood conservation. Results indicated that fibrin spray significantly reduced blood loss compared to standard electrocautery at 6, 24, 48, and 72 hours. On the contrary, bipolar sealer only significantly reduced blood loss at the 48-hour mark compared to the control group. There were no adverse events reported.
