56 patients with Dupuytren\'s contracture and who underwent surgical release were randomized to be managed postoperatively with a night extension orthosis and hand therapy, or hand therapy alone. The purpose was to determine if wearing an orthosis nightly would result in significantly better extension over 3 months following surgery. The results indicated that total active extension of the operated finger(s) did not significantly differ between groups. No significant difference was also observed between groups for total active flexion, grip strength, and hand function on the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire.
