NZOA 2013: Immediate mobilization following wrist fracture yields favourable outcomes

131 patients with distal radius fractures participated in this study to determine the effects of immediate mobilization postoperatively. Patients began mobilization on postoperative day 1 or 2 weeks following the surgery . The results imply improved range of motion and grip strength in the immediate mobilization group at 2 weeks, as well as improved Mayo Wrist Scores at 1 year. Other functional assessments, complications and time to return to work were comparable between groups.
