Educational videodisc has no impact on osteoarthritic patients' expectations of TKA
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2013 Nov;21(11):2595-602

92 patients with osteoarthritis undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to evaluate the benefits of an educational audiovisual videodisc in managing surgery-related expectations. Patients either received the additional information or not, and were evaluated over 12 months. The evidence presented in this study indicated that expectations were not modified by the videodisc compared to without, with the exception of knee range of motion, and use of stairs. No significant differences in change of expectations between groups in terms of, demographic, functional, health, emotional and cognitive variables were apparent, with the exception of body mass index. The overall preoperative and pre-intervention expectations were not modified by the addition of a video disc.
