Lumbar spinous process-splitting laminectomy reduces postop wound pain & muscle atrophy

41 patients with lumbar canal stenosis were assigned to either the lumbar spinous process-splitting laminectomy (LSPSL) treatment group or the conventional laminectomy group to determine if LSPSL could reduce post-operative wound pain and muscle atrophy. Results indicated that the LSPSL group patients experienced reduced post-operative wound pain and muscle atrophy compared to patients who received conventional laminectomy. Further trials using larger sample sizes are required to confirm these findings.
