Exercise improves long-term balance and gait in elderly women with osteopenia
Arch Intern Med. 2010 Sep 27;170(17):1548-56. doi: 10.1001/archinternmed.2010.311.

160 women with osteopenia were randomly divided into two groups: one group underwent long-term exercise training, while the other carried out daily routines without intervention. The purpose of this randomized control trial was to determine if women with osteopenia would benefit from regular long-term, home-based exercise. Results indicate the exercise group achieved favourable postural sway, walking speed, and Frenchay Activities Index scores compared to the control group. It also suggests exercise may help prevent hip fractures among high-risk elderly women.
