Acta Orthop Belg. 2013 Feb;79(1):25-30.

This study was conducted to prospectively evaluate the feasibility of a large scale project assessing the local application of Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) compared to standard arthroscopic repair of massive rotator cuff tears. 28 patients were randomized to undergo either complete arthroscopic repair augmented with PRF, or standard arthroscopic repair of the massive rotator cuff tear. Results after 2 years indicated that an application of PRF to the repair site failed to improve healing rate and functional outcomes compared to standard repair. Nonetheless, a large scale study is required to validate these results.
