77 patients with an MRI-diagnosed degenerative meniscal tear undergoing arthroscopic partial meniscectomy were randomized to either undergo a 3-month medical exercise therapy (MET) program, or not. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of this rehabilitation protocol on pain, function and mental health. Results indicated that the MET group displayed significantly greater improvements in pain, five repetition maximum (5-RM), Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Scores (KOOS), as well as Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and one-leg hop test scores, both at the 3- and 12-month follow-up assessments.
