AAOS: Superior functional outcome with arthroscopic versus open Bankart repair
38 patients with anterior glenohumeral joint dislocation schedule for Bankart repair were randomized to receive either open Bankart repair or arthroscopic Bankart repair. The purpose of this study was to determine whether one method was more effective with respect to functional outcome and incidence of recurrent dislocations. Results from follow-up of at least 2 years revealed significantly better WOSI scores and significantly greater improvements in WOSI scores versus baseline. No recurrent dislocations were observed but there were 7 (22%) reported cases of subluxation overall. Mean time from stabilization to follow-up was 4.6 years.
