In-home rehabilitation for 6 months improves functional recovery after hip fracture
JAMA. 2014 Feb 19;311(7):700-8

232 hip fracture patients who had completed initial rehabilitation were randomized to either an in-home rehabilitation program for 6 months (intervention group) or a single session of nutrition education for cardiovascular health with periodic telephone follow-up (control group). The purpose was to compare function between groups after the 6 month program, as well as at 3 months after completion of the intervention. The results indicated that functional recovery was significantly improved in the intervention compared to control group after the 6 months, and that treatment effects were maintained at the 3-month follow-up. Significant effects of the intervention protocol were also observed for balance and exercise self-efficacy.
