WCO-IOF: Vitamin D supplementation appears to improve muscle function
A meta-analysis was performed including 21 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to examine the effect of vitamin D supplementation on muscle function. Results indicated a small effect of vitamin D supplementation on global muscle strength, a moderate effect on muscle mass, but no effect on muscle power. Patients who were either < 65 years old or had a baseline 25-Hydroxyvitamin D3 concentration (Calcifediol) of < 35 nmol/L appeared to be more positively affected by vitamin D supplementation.
