Collagenase injections: A non-surgical modality in treating Dupuytren's Disease
Journal of Hand Surgery American; 2010; 35(A); 2027-203866 patients with contractures, affecting either the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) or proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints, were randomized to receive Xiaflex (collagenase clostridium histolyticum) or placebo local injection. The results of the 9-month long trial indicated that patients who received Xiaflex displayed significantly greater range of motion and a significantly decreased degree of joint contracture. Additionally, it was found that patients who received Xiaflex were more satisfied than those who received placebo.
