J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2008 Jan;90(1):52-61.50 patients with chronic recalcitrant insertional Achilles tendinopathy with failure of prior non-operative management were randomized to undergo management with eccentric loading or repetitive low-energy shock wave therapy for 12 weeks. At 1 year, the group that received shock wave therapy showed significantly better results than the group treated with eccentric loading, in pain reduction and improvement of VISA-A Scores. The improved results after shock wave therapy at 4 months stayed persistent at 1 year follow-up evaluation.
