EFORT: Modern TKA implants appear to improve patient outcome over traditional implants
212 patients with knee osteoarthritis undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a modern, 4th generation implant (Triathlon), or a 2nd generation traditional implant (Kinemax), to compare patient outcomes between these designs. Results indicated significantly better patient satisfaction scores, knee flexion, lower-limb muscle power, and pain scores over 3 years for the modern group compared to the traditional group. Oxford knee scores and time functional test scores were not significantly different between groups.
