Comparison of plating, nailing, and external fixation of distal tibial shaft fractures
Int Orthop. 2014 Jun;38(6):1261-7137 patients with a closed or open (grade I or II) distal tibial shaft fracture, were randomized to treatment with either external fixation, minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis, and intramedullary nailing. Patients were followed for 1 year postoperatively. There was no significant difference between groups in healing or time to radiographic union of the fracture. At 1 year, ankle function was comparable between groups.
