Patients between 18 and 65 years old with a chronic (>3months and <5 years) grade 1 or 2 whiplash-associated disorder were randomized to either undergo a supervised 12-week comprehensive exercise program or receive advice to compare outcomes up to 1 year. Results indicated that pain intensity (during the week prior to follow-up assessments) was not significantly different between groups at all follow-up periods. Furthermore, secondary outcomes measures (except for self-reported recovery at all time points and functional ability at 14 weeks), CNS hyperexcitability, and psychological distress were not significantly different between groups during the study period.
