Continuous and pulsed ultrasound show similar efficacy for knee osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2014 Aug;22(8):1090-9

12 studies investigating the efficacy of continuous and pulsed ultrasound therapies in patients with knee osteoarthritis were included in this systematic review, and 8 of these studies were used in a network meta-analysis. This study aimed to assess the effects of both continuous and pulsed ultrasound therapies on pain relief and function improvement for knee osteoarthritis. Findings demonstrated reduced pain with both therapies, but greater functional improvement with pulsed ultrasound. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the two treatment methods in both outcomes, nor did they induce adverse events.
