180 unilateral and 150 bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients were randomly allocated into either a tranexamic acid (TXA) group or a control group. There were similar trends found in both unilateral and bilateral TKA groups treated with TXA, in regards to reducing total blood loss, blood loss via the drain, and haemoglobin drop. However, only TXA patients that had undergone bilateral TKA showed a significant reduction in transfusion rate.
