Improved early postoperative knee extension and flexion after midvastus approach for TKA

21 randomized controlled trials comparing medial parapatellar approach versus midvastus approach for primary total knee arthroplasty were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled analysis of postoperative knee extensor and flexion function revealed superior outcomes in patients in the midvastus approach group. In addition to these early functional improvements the midvastus patients experienced less early postoperative pain. Both approaches had similar risks of complications.
