Allograft for pes planus lateral column lengthening viable alternative to autograft
Foot Ankle Int. 2007 Jan;28(1):8-12.31 patients (33 feet) with acquired pes planus were randomized to undergo operative treatment for stage II posterior tibial tendon insufficiency (PTTI). Lateral column lengthening was performed with a bone graft from the iliac crest obtained either through allograft or autograft procedures. Results showed that at the 12-week follow-up, union was achieved in both groups. Allograft of the iliac crest appeared to be a viable alternative to autograft procedures, leading to decreased risk of morbidity and costs, as seen in autograft surgeries.
